Case study - Distilleries
Established in 2005, Kilchoman is a farm distillery on Islay which produces Single Malt Scotch Whisky. The distillery was the first to be built on the island for 124 years and adopts the expression ‘100% Islay from barley to bottle’. Following a recommendation from another whisky distillery, Kilchoman entered discussions with Bruce Stevenson Insurance Brokers in order to strategically review the company’s insurance and risk programme.
In order to meet the requirements of the distillery, Commercial Account Executive, Graeme Dempster completed a full review of the businesses insurance and risk provision. The distillery grows and malts a proportion of its barley requirements on site and after all of the processes, production and maturation have taken place, bottling is also carried out on site. By taking time to understand Kilchoman’s business model, Graeme was better placed to understand the risks involved and therefore fully equipped with the insight needed to advise on the appropriate cover required for the distillery.
Kilchoman Distillery are delighted that as a result of the work carried out by Graeme, they have a comprehensive insurance programme which is uniquely tailored to their business. The cover includes features which are unique to the industry including maturation of whisky stock and loss of production insurance.
“Since their appointment as our insurance broker we have been happy with the level of service that we have received and would highly recommend their services to any other distillery or food & drink business that is considering using their services.” – Anthony Wills, Founder & Managing Director, Kilchoman Distillery
