Bruce Stevenson is privileged to have SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Course as a client. The hotel was opened in 1982 and is recognised as one of the finest country house hotels in Scotland. In 1997, The Roxburghe Golf Course opened alongside the property and has since hosted several high profile tournaments, including the Scottish Seniors from 2001 to 2005.
The resort was recently purchased by a German development company called 12.18. Investment Management and has reopened following a substantial investment to redevelop the property. This redevelopment has seen the hotel rebranded as SCHLOSS Roxburghe, a complete refurbishment of the existing 20 bedrooms, with plans to extend to include 57 new rooms, a luxury spa and state-of-the-art meeting space in a separate building. In addition, 60 lodges will be built on the surrounding estate and be offered to private investors through a sale-and-lease-back concept.
In addition to the hotel, spa and golf course and fantastic surroundings are numerous other leisure activities, including horse riding, fishing, shooting and more, not to mention a commitment to using the very best local produce within its mouth-watering menus. Indeed, many of the ingredients that the chef team plan to use will be sustainably sourced from the Roxburghe Estate.
Turning to matters of insurance, preparing a beautiful B-listed building for a full makeover is no easy undertaking. As with any old building, especially a listed one, there are significant areas of focus required for managing risk. Bruce Stevenson was appointed on the back of our extensive experience within the leisure and hospitality sector and our knowledge of which pitfalls can often arise.
As a business, we also appreciated how extremely important it was to help protect the existing structure and support the contractor whilst works were carried out. Building a tripartite relationship between client, broker and insurer was key in delivering consistent advice throughout the project, whilst we were also able to suggest several improvements such as the adoption of specific health and safety policies, staff training and induction sessions, maintenance management and fire suppression processes, amongst others.
With phase one now complete and the hotel open, we are now working towards the next phase, a 60-bedroom extension with spa and pool. All of which will help establish SCHLOSS Roxburghe Hotel & Golf Club as one of the most significant luxury destinations in the land.
